ENQUIRE

We are delighted to announce our latest series of commissions from some of today’s most exciting and innovative composers. The new pieces will be premiered at the International Anthony Burgess Foundation on 5th November, 2022. There will be 2 performances, at 5.30pm and at 8pm. Please join us for a chat and a drink with us and the composers afterwards.

The ASQ will premiere and record new works from Dani Howard (Royal Philharmonic Society Awards Winner 2021); Grace Evangeline-Mason (Royal Philharmonic Society Awards Winner 2018); Jenni Watson, one of the most distinctive and individual composers with a flair for saxophone composition; Claire Cope, pianist, composer, bandleader and educator (shortlisted for a Marvin Hamlish Award 2021, presented by Quincy Jones); Adam Caird, well-respected pianist and composer; and Bill Connor, one of the UK's most respected film and concert composers.

This unique and in-depth insight and engagement with the composers also offers an additional bonus to audience members, with fascinating and informative videos and programme notes sent out before the concert. Please click here  to see a selection of our most significant commissions.

ENQUIRE

JOURNEY ACROSS THE IMPOSSIBLE

In 1998 the ASQ was commissioned to write a substantial new series of works for black-and-white film. The group chose an hour-long selection of short films, many from the early experimental days of film in the early 1900s, and set them to original scores. This critically acclaimed set has thrilled audiences of all ages across the UK, and continues to receive rave reviews.

“A unique virtuosic banquet” Classical Music Magazine

“Mind boggling, strange and wonderful”

“Brilliant. Hilarious. A tour de force”

The programme offers a captivating and thought-provoking insight into how the film world has changed since its humble beginnings over a century ago. Juxtaposed with modern soundtracks, the themes of these wonderful films are just as relevant today as when they were first conceived. The music from many of these films, along with the group’s ground breaking original scores written with poet Lemn Sissay (The Four Seasons) is recorded on the ASQ CD Word & Pictures.
