All eight members have composed new pieces of music for the group. An exclusive Uk premier of the project took place on February 1st 2019 at the Event Space at HOME, Manchester. The group then spent the following few days in the recording studio at The University of Salford, making its first album. One of the Apollo Quartet's most long standing projects is their critically acclaimed silent movie set. A weird and whacky collections of early black and white films from the luminaries of the silent movie era are combined with entertaining and original scores from the members of the quartet. Journey Across the Impossible was originally commissioned in 1998 by Phoenix arts in Leicester and has evolved into an unusual and thought provoking multi media experience.
Back in 1999 Apollo commissioned 3 major saxophone quartet concerti with strings. Graham Fitkin's 'Plan B', 'Ballade' by Howard Skempton and a concerto by Barbara Thompson. After performing 'Plan B' at FISP, Portugal in 2019 the group are to record a CD of the project.
